Academic Master’s Program in History, Politics and Cultural Heritage:

What is the duration of the academic master’s program in History, Politics and Cultural Heritage?

The standard duration of the academic master’s program is four semesters.

How is the curriculum?

The academic master’s curriculum includes the development of a master’s thesis and the following courses: two required courses (“History and Social Theory” and “Research Methods and Techniques”); two elective courses; and two research seminars (activities to be defined by the advisor), each worth four credits or 60 class hours.

What time do the class sessions take place?

Class sessions take place on weekdays, from 2 to 6 pm.

O curso é presencial ou à distância?

Desde 2023, as disciplinas e as bancas do Mestrado Acadêmico e do Doutorado Acadêmico voltaram a ser presenciais.

Can I complete any courses from other master’s or doctoral programs?

Yes. One of the elective courses may be replaced by a course completed through a different master’s or doctoral program recognized by CAPES, provided that program coordinators have been informed in advance and the course is worth at least four credits (60 class hours).

Are any tuition fees due in this program?

There is no tuition fee for this program. All candidates selected for the program are exempt from tuition and any other fees.

Academic PhD Program in History, Politics and Cultural Heritage:

What is the duration of the academic PhD program in History, Politics and Cultural Heritage?

The standard duration of the academic PhD program is eight semesters.

How is the academic PhD curriculum?

The academic PhD curriculum is comprised of three courses of four credits or 60 class hours each. Two of the courses are electives and one required (“Research Methods and Techniques”). Additionally, there are five research seminars (activities to be defined by the advisor), and finally the dissertation.

What time do the class sessions take place?

Class sessions take place on weekdays, from 2 to 6 pm.

Is it possible to transfer credits from the master’s program?

No, program regulations do not allow for this option.

Can I complete any courses from another master’s or doctoral program?

Yes. One of the elective courses may be replaced by a course from another master’s or doctoral program recognized by CAPES, provided that this is previously communicated to the program coordinators and is worth at least four credits (60 class hours).
