The FGV CPDOC School of Social Sciences values collaboration with external scholars, professionals, and students, recognizing that such exchanges are essential for advancing excellence in education and research. FGV CPDOC welcomes applications for visiting fellow affiliation on an ongoing basis and regularly hosts visitors from both Brazil and abroad.
A Visiting Fellow should be:
- A highly qualified scholar who is willing to join us on a temporary basis, for a minimum period of 15 days and not longer than 1 (one) year, to carry out research and/or teaching activities;
- A scholar working towards a graduate degree at another institution who does not need to validate academic credits and who is willing to join us on a temporary basis, for a minimum period of 15 days and not longer than 1 (one) year.
Please note that PhD researchers interested in pursuing a postdoctoral affiliation and conducting research in collaboration with the faculty of our Graduate Programs in History, Politics, Cultural Heritage, and Social Projects should consult the specific requirements for this position with the Head of Graduate Programs.
Master’s and PhD students from other institutions interested in taking courses in our Graduate Programs should contact the Program coordination for information on prerequisites and academic registration.
Application:
The Coordination Council at FGV CPDOC evaluates applications on a monthly basis. Candidates must submit the following documents:
- Current CV;
- Cover letter specifying the intended duration of stay and the name of the advisor at FGV CPDOC;
- Research project and work plan.
All documents should be sent via email either directly to our Research Coordinator (juliana.marques@fgv.br), or through the candidate's assigned supervisor.
Visitors must be sponsored by a faculty member who is willing to act as an advisor to the proposed research project, and it is the responsibility of a prospective Visitor to contact appropriate faculty members and arrange for such sponsorship.
In selecting applicants, the Council takes into account the candidate's background, field of interest, academic achievements, research proposal, availability of workspace, and language proficiency (in either English or Portuguese).
The program provides Visitors access to:
- Opportunity to develop your own research agenda and to develop a strong academic network;
- A workstation, for shared use, with a computer and Internet access;
- Access to the excellent research infrastructure of FGV CPDOC;
- Career mentoring;
- A constructive and collaborative research environment.
In return, visiting scholars must present their work in progress to peers and at an open event organized by FGV CPDOC, as well as make reference to their institutional affiliation when publishing research results.
Additional Information
The term Visiting Fellow is a courtesy designation that does not signify a formal association or academic appointment with FGV.
Every research proposal involving direct interaction with people, including identifiable information about individuals or that may entail risks will require approval by the FGV’s Ethics Committee.
Researchers interested in carrying out a Post-Doctoral internship should consult specific regulation.
