PhD Program in History, Politics and Cultural Heritage:

• What is the duration of the PhD Program in History, Politics and Cultural Heritage?

  The standard duration of the PhD program is eight semesters.

• What is the PhD curriculum like?

  The PhD curriculum should cover a dissertation and enrollment in three subjects, including the mandatory subject “Research Methods and Techniques,” two optional subjects and five research seminars (activities to be defined by the advisor), each worth four credits or 60 class hours.

• What time do the tuition sessions take place?

  Tuition sessions can take place from Monday to Friday, from 2 pm to 6 pm.

• Is it possible to transfer credits from the Master's Program?

  No, because the course Regulations do not include this option.

• Does the program take place on campus or online?

  On campus, but in view of the uncertainties of the current pandemic, mandatory and optional subjects will be offered online (live) in 2021. Due to the exceptional circumstances that we are going through, in practice, incomers will be able to complete the subjects online and will not need to come to campus.

• Can I complete any subjects through other master’s or doctor’s programs?

  Yes. One of the optional subjects may be replaced by a subject from another master’s or doctor’s program recognized by Capes, provided that this is previously communicated to the Coordinators of this Program and is worth at least four credits (60 class hours).

• Are any tuition fees due in this program?

  No, they are not. All those passing the PhD Program selection process will be exempt from tuition and any other fees.

Academic Master’s Program in History, Politics and Cultural Heritage:

• What is the duration of the Academic Master’s Program in History, Politics and Cultural Heritage?

  The standard duration of the Academic Master's Program is four semesters.

• What is the curriculum like?

  The Academic Master’s curriculum should cover the development of a thesis, and the following subjects: two mandatory subjects (“History and Social Theory” and “Research Methods and Techniques”); two optional subjects, and two research seminars (activities to be defined by the advisor), each worth four credits or 60 class hours.

• What time do the tuition sessions take place?

  Tuition sessions can take place from Monday to Friday, from 2 pm to 6 pm.

• Does the program take place on campus or online?

  On campus, but in view of the uncertainties of the current pandemic, mandatory subjects and one optional subject will be offered online (live) in 2021. The second optional subject will be hybrid, where 48 hours will be on campus and 12 hours will be online. Due to the exceptional circumstances that we are going through, incomers will be able to complete most of the credits online and will not need to come to campus. For the remaining credits, if the Ministry of Education does not allow to complete them online, we will seek solutions to help the students complete the credits (such as fast-track courses or other solutions).

• Can I complete any subjects through other master’s or doctor’s programs?

  Yes. One of the optional subjects may be replaced by a subject completed through a different master’s or doctor’s program recognized by Capes, provided that this is previously communicated to the Coordinators of this Program and is worth at least four credits (60 class hours).
